Reflection
My time in FIU was invaluable, and global learning only made it better. I was able to get first-hand experience in global and internationally-driven clubs, such as Model UN, where I was able to compete in different conferences in a variety of settings to pursue diplomacy in times of crisis. During my model UN experience, I simulated the cabinets of Brazil, Venezuela, New York, and Mexico. I also got to hear of different opportunities through global learning, landing my first paid internship- with Prospectiva- through a newsletter that was sent out in the Global Learning program. If it wasn't for being subscribed to global learning, I never would have gotten the start that catapulted me into internships that I think shaped my college career and will shape my life beyond. I also got to be a part of research that was conducted within the global learning program, with researchers that were looking at what a global education can really do for someone. I was one of the interviewees and was delighted to participate in inputting my perspective. The Global Learning program also pushed me to look at opportunities in DC, and has helped me want to learn more about the world and get a job after graduation that has global implications. Apart from my internships and my experience in model UN, I also got to take classes that I personally feel were crucial to my college education, and which expanded my knowledge. I outlined some of these classes, and they are ones that I will never forget. Last but not least, my experience in the class "Global Entrepreneurship" is one I would like to highlight, because it helped me to reach new heights and helped me become the founder of a start-up and, later on, compete in the FIU hult competition. We ended up winning second place in the FIU competition, and were able to foster a team- with me, and three others working on finance and marketing efforts, to try and change a little bit of the world. Even though we will not continue on with the company, it was experience I would never have gotten had I not taken the class that helped me grow the idea to create such a business. In addition, the events promoted by global learning have been extremely interesting, and I've enjoyed being able to attend a few of them. From listening to government analysts speak about Cuba to the Venezuelan crisis, I also truly enjoyed these events and thought they were an important addition to my education. Now that I am graduating, I am truly grateful to have been a part of the program and a part of FIU! I wish the program all the best.
